Tsunami Advisory Issued for Japanese Coastal Regions
Powerful Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warning
Five Prefectures Affected
A tsunami advisory has been issued for the coastal areas of Miyazaki, Kochi, Oita, Kagoshima, and Ehime in Japan. The warning comes after a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's main islands. The quake was followed by a series of smaller aftershocks.
Tsunami waves have already begun arriving along the coast in southern Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency has advised residents to seek higher ground and evacuate inland.
