Armand Duplantis: The World Record-Breaking Pole Vaulter

Early Life and Career

Armand Gustav Duplantis was born on November 10, 1999, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to American parents. His father, Greg Duplantis, is a former pole vaulter who competed for the United States. Armand developed a passion for the sport at a young age and began honing his skills under his father's guidance.

Meteoric Rise to Success

Duplantis's innate talent and unwavering determination quickly became apparent as he set numerous records throughout his youth. He won back-to-back NCAA championships for Louisiana State University in 2019 and 2020, before turning professional and competing internationally.

In 2020, Duplantis made history by becoming the youngest ever pole vaulter to clear 6 meters indoors. He followed this up with a remarkable performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning gold and setting a new Olympic record of 6.02 meters.

World Record Holder

Outdoor Record

On September 17, 2020, Duplantis cemented his place as the greatest pole vaulter in history by clearing a staggering 6.15 meters outdoors at the Diamond League meeting in Rome, Italy. This record remains unmatched and has established him as an unbeatable force in the sport.

Indoor Record

Not content with his outdoor achievement, Duplantis set another world record indoors on March 7, 2022, clearing 6.24 meters at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. This record further solidified his dominance and made him the only person to hold both the indoor and outdoor world records simultaneously.

Continued Success

Since setting his world records, Duplantis has continued to dominate the pole vaulting circuit. He won back-to-back world championships in 2022 and 2023, and is widely considered the greatest male athlete in the world.
