History and Formation
The Netherlands national football team, also known as the Dutch National Football Team or simply the Netherlands, represents the Netherlands in international football competitions. It is governed by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and has been a member of FIFA and UEFA since its inception in 1904.
First Match and Competitions
The team played its first official international match on April 30, 1905, against Belgium, which ended in a 4-1 defeat. Since then, the Netherlands has participated in numerous international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, and UEFA Nations League.
The Netherlands has a rich history in international football, having reached the final of the FIFA World Cup three times (1974, 1978, 2010) and winning the UEFA European Championship once (1988). The team is known for its attacking style of play, which has earned them the nickname "Oranje," referring to the color of their national jersey.
