Clarence Thomas Returns to Supreme Court After Hospitalization

Justice Thomas was hospitalized for an infection but has now recovered

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas returned to the bench on Tuesday, a day after he missed arguments in two cases, the court said.

No reason was given for Thomas's absence on Monday, but the court said he was hospitalized in Washington after being diagnosed with an infection.

Thomas, 74, is the second-oldest justice on the court, after Chief Justice John Roberts, 68. He has been on the court since 1991 and is considered one of its most conservative members.

Thomas's return to the bench comes as the court is considering several high-profile cases, including a challenge to the Affordable Care Act and a dispute over the Trump administration's travel ban.

It is unclear whether Thomas will participate in the upcoming cases. The court is expected to issue rulings in both cases by the end of June.
